Our Specialties
Anxiety
Anxiety is what happens when worries or fears grow strong enough to interfere with the way you want to live. You might feel trapped, as anxiety can cloud your understanding and ramp up the tension.
Full Focus Therapy is grounded in DBT, a type of behavior therapy that strengthens skills in regulating anxiety. Mindfulness skills help you notice when you are close to getting overwhelmed and give you freedom to choose how to respond. Emotion Regulation skills help you name what fears are getting triggered, check the facts on those fears, and then follow through on your plan for how to deal with them. This is how you avoid getting pulled out to sea with those worries and it’s how you avoid acting on them to making your situation worse.
Depression
Depression feels like losing joy in the things you like. Sadness can tip over into overwhelming pain that eats away at your motivation to live your life.
DBT helps you navigate a path out of depression with Distress Tolerance, a set of skills that have been shown to bring relief from depression and to deepen your understanding of how to prevent it from coming back. They work by helping you accept the reality of the situation and withstand the pain when aching sadness takes over. Emotion Regulation skills help you avoid reaching that moment in the first place by helping you understand and respond effectively to the circumstances that make you more vulnerable to depression.
Joys and Struggles of Being LGBTQ+
Research shows that LGBTQ+ people often struggle with their mental health, due in large part to the discrimination and stigma that our communities face.
Whether you have a strong sense of how you identify already or if you are just beginning to explore, connecting with a psychologist who is part of this community can help propel you forward. We have advanced training in how to hold a non-judgmental space for you to process questions of gender identity or sexual orientation. This doesn’t have to be what you focus on in therapy. You’ll have a safe person to talk to if it does come up.
